Caribbean Dance for Primary Schools
Very little is known about the rich wealth of dance traditions, which are part of the fabric of Caribbean heritage. Theses dances exist upon a continuum, which range from the very European in characteristics to the very African, often traceable back to the original forms on both these continents. At the centre of the continuum lie the Creole dances which are to be found nowhere else in the world.

From this rich range of dance forms characteristic basic movements are taken to introduce primary school children from reception to year 6 (each class especially developed according to each age group) to usually different and challenging ways of moving their bodies than they are already used to. Always combined with Traditional Caribbean stories, folk songs and Caribbean children’s games pupils are given the opportunity to explore a whole new world of movement.

Length of workshops:

Reception - (30 mins)
Year 1 & 2 - (45 mins – 1 hour)
Year 3 to 6 - (1 hour)

Workshop for Secondary Schools
Muraldo DC offers a range of dance forms (see what do we offer to schools) including traditional Caribbean dance to Secondary school children. Students will be given the opportunity to taste a challenging selection of movement characteristics and dances representative of different parts of the Caribbean dance continuum

Minimum length of workshops – one hour

We also offer percussion workshops, to both junior and secondary schools, which can in the case of secondary schools be combined with work developed in dance classes.

 

Caribbean Quadrille for Elders

For elders we specialise is teaching the Caribbean Quadrille which generally has all the benefits of that dance can give such as:

Nurturing the spirit of participation and co-operation
Increasing concentration span, improving dexterity
Building confidence,
Developing awareness of posture and co-ordination
Increasing one’s ability to observe listen and absorb information increasing stamina provides an opportunity to perform
Increasing mobility
And most of all its fun!

While this class is enjoyed by everyone from all cultures, many Caribbean elders, as children will have also watched their parents dance the Quadrille, as it was a popular social dance form danced at many social gatherings. Many Caribbean elders enjoy watching and taking part as it provide an excellent opportunity for them to reminisce about when they were younger and back home in the Caribbean.

Muraldo D C. also currently regularly teaches dance students at both Surrey University and Laban, the internationally acclaimed dance establishment.

Christian Dance Workshops
The Company holds workshops especially for the Christian Church, itself a multi-denominational organisation, ministering in all Christian churches irrespective of denomination.

 

Our aim is to encourage everyone irrespective of age, to enjoy the experience of movement, the joy of dancing, a true gift of God. Dancing has such far-reaching effects on the body and mind that we are certain that the lack of genuine community dance in this society has significantly contributed to the state of society today. As Christians we also aim to demonstrate through our behaviour, our professionalism and our concern for each of our students the love of God, living testimonies that the love of God is real and the fact that there is an alternative way of living, which brings peace not strife.
